You know how in some bad movies there is this throw away shot near the beginning where they show some billboard or piece of trash on the ground that appears to be scenery but when you watch the movie a second time (or read the review) it turns out that one frame tells the whole story of the movie.
Today on the way to work I had one of those scenes in my movie.
I was travelling north on I-45 in the right lane and a van is doing a poor job of merging into my lane. I have to slow down to 45 MPH so that we do not wreck. There is one sticker on the van, and you know this sticker. It is one of those oval stickers and the background is the stars and stripes and the foreground is THESE COLORS DON'T RUN. I could see the slightest hint of blue in the upper lefthand corner. The rest of the colors had totally faded away.
I have been reading The Best American Essays of the Twentieth Centuryand Small Pieces Loosely Joinedand I have been thinking about how it does not matter what we do we are evolving anyway. This could just be a justification for me sitting on my a$$ for the last 36 years but I don't think so. Just because I do not always choose to actively participate in maximizing my human potential does mean that I do not grow anyway.
Anyway, seeing that sticker was like seeing how the movie is going to end.
